Valvojat: SisterClitorides, Dragon

Give: Depeche Mode-esque, synths, dark piano, but doesn't go anywhere
Strong Black Vine: Has strings and sounds like Witness
Flavor: Is unbelievably bad
Not Dying Today: Is extremely poppy, sounds like Dolphin Song
Maybe California: Is boring
Curtain Call: Synth and piano
That Guy: Big band song
Police Me: Sounds like Tombigbee
AATS: Sounds like a combination of Liquid Diamonds and Mountain
Starling: Has bird chirping samples
Ophelia: Starts out like Garlands/Seaside and turns into Jamaica Inn
Lady in Blue: Is slow and torchy, and ends with a long band jam
Fast Horse: uptempo rockish like Sweet Sangria
-the American flag jumpsuit is in the WTE visualette (I wish I were kidding)
-if you thought "Fat Slut" was bad, the term "slutty goth" appears in one song. And the next line is "but I'm a brightly colored person."
"Give" is really dark and vampiric; it makes a good opener. It starts off with a line along the linese of "so you've heard I've crossed over the line" and there's the chorus lyric "I must give so I can live." This was one of my favorites. "Strong Black Vine" seemed like it could be really great live. I found "Flavor" very boring. "Not Dying Today" has the awesome Neil lyric referencing Neil being happy to be mammalian. It's a really upbeat song and some of the lyrics sound country-ish--the chorus has a line about being "six feet under and full of thunder." "Maybe California" is really pretty--it's sad and slow and about a mother who's feeling really hopeless. I found some of the lyrics a bit sappy (angels falling, etc.) but still really enjoyed the song overall. The title track is kind of spacey and psychedelic. "Mary Jane" sounds like it did at SXSW--I think it's the only piano and vocals only song. I liked "Starling"--it's a bit slow and dark and about finding jealousy you didn't know you had in you. "Ophelia" was also nice and one of the more sparse songs but the chorus was still pretty full-sounding. I really enjoyed the album version of "Lady in Blue." It ends with this long instrumental bit--I hope the visualette for this is spooky and noir. For me (and only based on one listen), this is Tori's weakest album, lyrically.
