Just itse kuuntelin sen 1.30 minsan klipin mut käynkin imuttamassa koko biisin sitten.. hähää..ja tosiaan. kuulostaa hyvältä vaikka onkin taas niin erilaista Toria kun tähän asti.

"Having been born in North Carolina, the South walks with me wherever I am in the world," says Amos. "I can't get it out of my DNA. I don't know if it's a genetic thing, because my mother's side, so far back, is from the Eastern Cherokee nation. So it's really in the blood. It's almost like you listen to the land speaking to you. And wherever I am I can hear the South calling me. I really like the idea that trouble was a young woman....I see her on my travels a lot. And maybe I knew her many years ago when I was in my twenties."

It's an album on which Amos once more zeroes in on the writing of brightly melodic, deftly evocative chamber-pop.

Itse kappaleesta: se on todella hyvä, mutta ei loistava. Sanat ovat hyvät, musiikki on hvyää, mutta jostain syystä biisi ei kolahda ihan täysillä. Toivottavasti tämä valittiin sinkuksi, koska se on levyn ainoa kappale joka on single-materiaalia. Lähinnä mieleen tulee joku Wednesday, josta tykkään myös, mutta joka ei ole Torin parhaimmistoa.

Mutta joku koukku tässä biisissä on. Joku mystinen ilmapiiri, jossa on vetovoimaa.

Ja sinänsä outo valinta sinkuksi, että tässähän ei ole varsinaista kertosäettä! Eli siinä mielessä ei kovin radioystävällinen.

Jos ajattelee Torin aikaisempia sinkkuja, eihän Cornflake Girlkään kuulosta sinkkumateriaalilta ainakaan paperilla. Toivon, että jotain Trouble's Lamentia parempaa on luvassa. Kaikki muut vaikuttavat todella innostuneilta tästä biisistä, joten harmittaa vähän kun itse en pääsee mukaan innostukseen... Ehkä levyn kontekstissa biisi toimii paremmin, samoin kuin Scarletin biisit toimivat yleensä levyn kontekstissa paremmin. Tai sitten kappale kasvaa ajan kuluessa, koska siinä ei ole mitään vikaa. Se ei vain juuri nyt iske lekalla päähän ja saa haluamaan lisää.

Tuo kuva on tosiaan kiva. Tämän albumin promokuvat ovat olleet todella hyviä. Jos kuvista voi päätellä jotain tulevasta albumista, jotain hyvää on luvassa.

Kategoriassa "uskoako vai ei", niin tuolla foorumilla kirjottelee yks tyyppi joka mm Night of Hunters levystä kertoi oikeen osuvia asioita ennen kun levy tuli ulos, ja kirjoittaa nyt myös tuosta uusimmasta mm että levyllä on duetto. Ja jengi sitten arvuutteli ja koska Tori on fanille kertonut että Tash ei ole levyllä niin kyseessä on ilmeisesti Patrcik Wolf joka on twiitannut tapaavansa Torin. Postaan tähän vähn muutakin mitä se on kirjotellut tuolla..

-I thought the album was kind of wild and vivid.
-For me defining music, etc. as "good" or "bad" is not a particularly interesting way to critically read something.I enjoyed it a lot. There were a lot of surprises.Like all of her albums, there will be elements people love and those that people flip out over in a bad way. I feel like this has been the case since LE though.

-Yes, there is. It's TORI AMOS haha. That's a good question, I see a little smatterings of each album on UG. That said, there are some VERY new directions she goes in too, stylistically.
-Some details: Again, 16 Shades of Blue references Cezanne and talks a lot about age.Title track is nearly 7 minutes long, 2 parts and has a sort of electro-dance element.Giant's Rolling Pin is about ... pie. Key lime and Mississippi mud to be precise.And yes, I also heard NoH early.

What was your favorite song?

Tough call. Title track is a standout. 16 Shades is great. Oysters.

- Which one of her past albums would you say this new album most closely resembles in sound/style, overall?

TOUGH question. There's a LOT of every album here and there. Knee jerk I would say Venus simply bc of the loose vibe, varied instrumentation and unpredictability. BUT that said, I think that depending on one's mood and inclination, ANY album might be there SW, BKPR, ADP, AAts, LE, Pink, etc. definitely for me NO Pele referencing.

- Does it seem completely fresh, or more so an extension of what she is doing/has done?

Isn't every record an extension of previous material? Doesn't every album sort of have an influence the next? UG is ambitious. Covers much ground. Not sure if Tori -or any artist- is capable of NOT referencing what is good from previous material.

Nyt sitten joku toinen ns reliable source sanoo kans kuulleensa sen ja kertoo että:

A friend in media has heard the album and wanted to share some details anonymously:
- "Promise" is "kind of an R&B duet with Tash. No kidding." (mitäs v..tua.. taas toi pentu levyllä mukana vaikka Tori oli sanonu ettei oo??)
- The album is even more Americana than Scarlet.
- "Oysters" is one of the most beautiful piano-vocal songs she's ever done. People will lose their minds over how gorgeous it is.
-The Tash song is bizarre and so is "Giant Rolling Pin." Both should have been b-sides or something. They don't belong on an album.
"Wild Way," "Wedding Day," and "Weatherman" (three W's in a row!) are all fantastic. "Wild Way" is very sparse - "I hate you, I hate you" Tori repeats in a really tender voice, seemingly from the voice of a Native American woman to a pilgrim. Has a Venus-esque drum loop midway. "Wedding Day" is akin to "Carbon" in a lot of ways. Some Wurlitzer and piano and steady drums. "Weatherman" is, if I remember correctly, mostly just piano and vocal.
"Invisible Boy" is very tender a "Merman" and "Toast" hybrid. Tori chokes back tears at the end.
The piano on the piano-vocal songs is INCREDIBLE.
"Geraldines" is very weirdly structured. Lots of organ and layered vocals and then a weird super fast punk guitar and drum moment. This alternates for most of the song. Then the end has a piano solo that's really dark and lovely and then it breaks into a second part that's just Tori and vocal. She repeats "if you see the vicar's wife" over and over.
"Selkie" is also piano-vocal. All the piano is very satisfying. Nothing is dark, though.
This is an album that alternates between very very vibrant and very very melancholy.

"It's absolutely like nothing she's ever done before. "Trouble's Lament" is the most radio friendly thing on the whole album if that's any indication. Apart from the ill advised Tash outing and Rolling Pin, it's an ambitious odd album that will take a lot of work from the listeners like old school Tori albums. Few parts of this album are easily digestible. There's a true oddness to it that will perplex some and draw them in and alienate others."


Mutta enpä nyt tiedä näistä, jotkuhan saa kiksejä siitä, että keksivät itse noita juttuja ja sit levittelevät ympäriinsä. Ainakin vaikuttaa, et jompikumpi näistä valehtelee, koska ne kuvailee nimibiisiä aika eri tavalla.....

En tiedä.. molemmat ainakin sanovat että mukana on duetto tash:n kanssa.. molemmat kehuu Oysters biisiä.. molemmat sanoo että levy on hyvin outo ja ei ennakoitavissa .. ja että itse UG biisi on jotain todella näyttävää.. 2 osainen .. (toi toinen sanoo että biisi muuttuu erilaiseksi) aika paljon itse näen samaa noissa tulkinnoissa ja pitää muistaa että jokainen tosiaan kuulee musiikin eri tavalla ja toiset osaavat vaan ehkä sitten paremmin selittää kuulemaansa jos tuntevat soittimia ym.

No niin.. dollsbitches on saanut levyn ja toi on tyyppi jonka sanaan voi tosiaankin luottaa Postaan tähän mitä se kirjoittaa levystä:

-America is pretty low key at first, opens with acoustic guitars, very guitar heavy BTW, the piano is there but it's not the center. Then there's a 'bigger' bridge.
-Wild Way is pretty great, I think. It reminds me a little of 1,000 Oceans and I know that might make some people cringe but I really think that is a pretty good song and Wild Way is better. It sounds like a love song, but she repeatedly sings I Hate You. And how the person she's singing the song to liked her wild way. And how the person she's singing to met her 'before the pilgrims came', so if my info is correct that kind of mean this person conquered her, or at least settled in her?
-Wedding Day has rhodes
-So I cannot stress enough how hard it is to draw conclusions from just hearing an album once, but so far it kind of reminds me of Scarlet's Walk? So that's good? But once again; first listen, and also general excitement of hearing new Tori Amos are in play here. So mileage may vary.
-16 shades of blue is... interesting? Very simple electronic beat, during the 2nd verse her voice is really distorted.
